The Best Self-Empting Robot Vacuum Bagless Cleaners

Shoppers who are enthralled by this self-emptying robot vacuum say it's powerful enough to take care of pet hair, dirt, dust and more on any floor type. It comes with a three-stage cleaning system and can be controlled via an intelligent speaker or mobile app.

It's expensive however, this upgrade to a standard robotic vacuum is worth it for some. It comes with a large bin that needs to be empty once every 30-60 days.

1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO comes with two rubber multi-surface brushes and is designed to remove most types of debris from floors. It performs very well on hard floors and is great to sweep up dust and larger particles, however, it has a problem with pet hair. It also has a tendency to blow particles like kosher salt or kitty litter out of its way and require an additional sweep to remove.

It features a Clean/Power button located in the middle, and Home and Spot Clean buttons on either side. The light ring around the Clean/Power button glows solid white when it's charged. It it flashes red when the battery is low and shines blue when it's looking for its Clean Base in Dirt Detect mode (more about that below).

Once the cleaning of a room is done when the robot is done, it returns to its base, docking and then automatically emptying its internal dustbin into the Clean Base for self-emptying. You can also manually empty the bin when it's full, but that takes a while and requires you to remove the bin and clean the filter.

In our tests, this robot had outstanding suction on both carpeting and hard floors. Its intelligent mapping system is better than most other systems because it can store multiple maps and provide a variety functions, including an individualized and scheduled cleaning. It does not allow you to create Keep-Out Zones or clean specific rooms, which is essential if your home has more than one floor. You might consider the Roborock Q5+, which has a smart-mapping feature that is superior and provides more customization options through its application.

2. Shark Matrix

However, the company has risen quickly in popularity due to offering a broad selection of affordable robots with a premium build quality. The Matrix is their most popular model. It's a powerful whole-home cleaner with incredible suction and intelligent features.

The Next-gen Shark UR2500SR: AI Ultra Robot Vacuum Matrix has a self-emptying base station that automatically empty after each clean, avoiding the hassle of having to change out the bag. The Shark Matrix like all Shark robots, can be programmed to run according to a schedule or activated remotely using voice commands. It also uses cliff sensors to ensure that it doesn't fall off the steps and optical encoders that measure the distance it has been sanitized.

While it may lack the sophisticated vSLAM mapping that is found in the Roomba S9, the Matrix is still a great option for those looking for an affordable robotic vacuum. Its cleaning path is effective on carpeted surfaces, and it picks up dirt on all surfaces. It also boasts a slightly more powerful cleaning head than the S9 and a self-cleaning brushroll that's perfect for pet hair.

The only downside is that Shark's app may be frustratingly sluggish and unreliable, particularly when used in conjunction with the robot. The iRobot HOME app, on the other hand is a lot more intuitive and stable.

3. IRobot i3 Roomba

With its high-quality construction and impressive performance on bare floors, the Roomba i3 is one of our favorite robot vacuum bagless models. It is well-built, can maneuver around obstacles with ease and can charge quickly. It also has a huge dustbin that is easily empty.

This Roomba model doesn't have an upper-mounted camera that can recognize objects or look for unique features to remember, like some of its more premium counterparts do. It is equipped with optical sensors that focus downwards to find obstacles. It also builds up an image of the floor plan while it cleans, and it takes note of internal sensors like gyroscopes, wheel odometers, and gyroscopes. The iRobot Genius update, which adds smart mapping without increasing the price of the robot - lets you instruct it to clean specific areas with the iRobot Home app or your voice assistant.

If this Roomba is full of dirt - and it can be instructed to do so by the app or by its docking station, it returns to its home base and empties its internal dustbin into the larger external one. The docking station communicates with the robot using beacons, ensuring that they are in close proximity before it starts cleaning.

You can also schedule cleanings using the iRobot Home app or utilize your voice assistant to initiate the cleaning of any space that requires a quick fix. The dual rubber brushes are designed to get rid of pet hair, dirt and other clumps of debris. With its sensor that is reactive, you don't need to adjust the head's height manually or suction strength. If you prefer a more customizable experience, take a look at the Shark iQ Plus or Roborock S6 MaxV.

4. iRobot Roomba i5

This vacuum cleaner is among the top self-emptying ones available. It has a dirt container that automatically empties when full into the base of the robot. It also utilizes its own Dirt Detect technology to help it identify the most filthy areas of the room and clean them more thoroughly. The dual multi-surface rubber broom flexes to adapt to the floor's surface and help remove stubborn dirt. This is coupled with a powerful suction which draws up and holds dirt and dust, and mopping solution tank which releases liquid to effectively clean your floor.

It's a great option for floors that are unfinished and can be used on a low-pile rug. It isn't able to remove pet hair as efficiently as other models, and can struggle to handle large debris such as cereal as the dirt container gets full. It also has a restricted amount of maneuverability and can get caught up in things like rug tassels, and electrical cords. Its battery life is decent and it charges pretty quickly, though.

The iRobot Combo i5 takes things to the next level by adding mopping capabilities. Simply replace the Roomba Combo cleaning bin and the robot immediately transforms into an all-surface mop/vacuum robot. It can navigate rooms in neat rows and can be guided by the iRobot app or via voice commands when paired with a smart assistant device.

It's better at cleaning low-pile and bare floors than the iRobot Roomba E5 because it has a HEPA filter that catches allergens. It's not as smart as the Shark AI Robot, and it has more components to clean regularly. It feels more durable and has longer battery life, but costs more to run.

5. IRobot Roomba i7

The Roomba i7 has one very unique feature that we do not see in other robot vacuums: an automatic dirt removal system that is built into its base. When docked, a pipe on the Clean Base automatically suctions debris from the bin into a bag that is exclusive to Smart Maps by iRobot. It's a quick, easy method to empty the bin of the robot vacuum. You don't have to lift the old bin out and let everything move around (which could cause a small dust explosion). However, it adds some operating cost when you own this best-rated model. You'll need to replace the bag every time it fills up. They're not expensive, but you might feel guilty about throwing them to waste.

You can start cleaning your space immediately after pairing the i7+ with its Clean Base, or instruct it to perform some exploratory runs without vacuuming first to make a floor plan. Once you have a map and a floor map, you can use the iRobot app to label rooms, set up virtual barriers, schedule cleaning times for specific rooms, and much more.

The i7+ robot vacuum is a top-of-the-line model. It's capable and has all the features that you'd expect from a house automation device, but it's expensive and hard to justify. The Roborock S7 is less expensive than the i7+, feels better built, has lower recurring costs, and a longer runtime. It also does a better job on bare flooring. We recommend you look elsewhere unless you're completely committed to keeping a map of your home that is up-to-date.
