Our test participant Claire was impressed by the neat, easy-to-open packaging and deemed it to be one of the fastest and most simple pieces of baby gear to put together. She took it out for a spin on some rough terrain and was extremely pleased with its performance.

Seats

The majority of 3 wheel stroller lightweight wheel double buggies are initially single pushchairs, but some can convert to take a second seat or carrycot by converting adapters (these are typically more common in tandem buggies). You'll also see that some models allow you to add a ride-on board for older children who want to walk, but need some assistance.

For a lightweight option that is ideal for city streets, check out the Joie Evalite Duo. It's a breeze to move and has a deep basket with plenty of storage space. It can accommodate twins from birth and will accept two car seats or an infant carrycot and seat. The seats must be facing toward the forward direction and there isn't room to store a shopping bag under the seat. You will need an additional side bag.

If you like to go off-road and off-road, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a great choice. It's a side-by- side model with the most compact footprint of any double buggy available. This allows it to pass through doors with narrow openings and on public transport and allows you to climb up and down kerbs with no trouble. The adjustable handlebar features an integrated handbrake to increase security and safety.

Another lightweight choice is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double that can be used for twins or a baby and toddler. The seats come with multi-position recline and UPF 50+ sunshades, and the canopy can be adjusted to keep the sun out of your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can even be transformed into a triple with the addition of UPPAbaby's 'PiggyBack board for older and mobile kids.

The iCandy Orange is one of the most well-known double buggies available due to its outstanding comfort. It's an all-terrain model with a soft suspension that can easily handle bumpy surfaces. It can accommodate a massive 30 seating configurations, and includes a built-in ride-on for older children who prefer walking as well as a 'cinema' seating mode that raises the back of the seat to improve visibility.

The phil&teds dots are brilliant single buggys that are easily modified to take two (or three!) in various configurations. This is particularly useful for parents who have children in a car. The frame can be adapted to a wedgie, which allows for the best lie-flat position. Car seat adapters that can be used with a wide range of brands.

Suspension

The suspension of a double 3 wheel buggy will determine how easily your child/children and you can push it. It is essential to enjoy a smooth ride since babies feel every bump that comes along the road. This is particularly true if you are driving on rough terrain such as grass or roads that aren't paved. Some models also have locking front wheels to help with maneuvering and getting over obstacles like curbs.

Certain models have air-filled tyres that provide a fantastic all-terrain ride, but can be prone to punctures therefore, make sure you have spares in the trunk. Some models have gel-filled or foam-filled tyres which are designed to absorb bumps. They are less likely to puncture, but they could be uncomfortable for your child if you choose to jog.

MFM reviewer Kath tested the Urban Glide 2 through its trials with her infant and three years old son, and found it performed admirably on difficult terrains: "it navigated effortlessly over bumpy pavements and grass cobbles, dirt tracks and cobbles with ease and was easy to manoeuvre around corners and climb up and down kerbs. Folding

A three-wheeled double buggy can be folded in a neat manner to be stored. Another alternative is the phil&teds sport, which is future proof because it's a fantastic single buggy right from the start and then adapts to take two (or even three!) within its compact footprint. It is a clever 3-wheel design with an sling seat that provides greater maneuverability, stability and the ability to pop the kerb.

This is one of the best double buggies to run with your kids. It features a lockable front wheel which can help you maintain control over rough terrain or off-road. It also comes with a large undercarriage basket, a movable handlebar and soft suspension for a comfy ride.

Stores

One thing that people appreciate about a good 3 Wheel Umbrella Stroller-wheel double buggy is its storage capabilities. Some models, such as the Roma Atlas, have a large basket and two zip pockets on the hood that you can store your phone and keys. It is also designed to withstand a bit rough terrain, making it a great option for family walks or all-terrain hikes.

Other models, such as the UPPAbaby Vista 2, offer plenty of room and the flexibility to transport twins or two toddlers and a child. (This is made possible by their 'PiggyBack board'). It's the most compact side-by-side double available and it has some impressive tech including game-changing LED visibility lights on each side of the frame to improve security in low-light conditions.

For something different and unique, the Joie Evalite Duo is a lightweight buggy that can accommodate twins from birth (it's world-facing and has an upright position). Its clever frame expands to accommodate an extra seat, but still weighs only 11kg. This makes it simple to lift and maneuver. It can be used with a car seat, carrycot, or both. This allows you to have the best of both worlds.
