The digital artwork

After weeks of social media posts that hinted at it, luxury car maker Lamborghini finally revealed its first venture for non-fungible tokens (NFT). It's dubbed the Space Key, it consists of five items that unlock an exclusive digital artwork NFT by an unidentified artist. The 'collectors piece' was developed in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm) and is limited to just five units. It will be auctioned soon.

The core of each Space Key is a block of advanced carbon fire composite material that was shipped to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. After returning to Earth it was imprinted with a QR code that links it to the digital component of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a separate moment that occurs a few seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Each of the five images was captured by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner used a balloon equipped with a camera to capture each of the individual images, which were then merged into the final image. The result is an out of this world photo that captures the beauty of the Earth and the futuristic, hyper-realistic image of the car rising away from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, however the exact date and location of the event hasn't been revealed yet.

The auction

With the slogan "to the moon', luxury automobile manufacturer Lamborghini has entered the world of non-fungible tokens (NFT) by launching a hypnotic project that was developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm). The Space Key is essentially an NFT that contains carbon fiber composite material, which went to the International Space Station in 2019 for research purposes. The auctions, which take place between February 1 until February 4, last for 75 hours and 50 minutes, the same time it took Apollo 11 to leave Earth and enter the lunar orbit. By making an online registration, you can bid on the five NFTs. Each NFT will be sold separately and the winner will get an original digital art work by the renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments the Space Key experienced during its flight in outer space.
