3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeled buggy is ideal for off-roading and provides the most comfortable ride for infants. They are also easier to push and manoeuvre than a four wheel buggy especially those equipped with slings made of fabric or modular seat units that are tightly positioned in the frame and deliver the most efficient design and weight distribution.

Stability

Three-wheeled buggys are extremely stable, which makes them an excellent option for off-road walks (especially when they are equipped with a seat that is all-terrain or off-road). If you're looking for a buggy that will take on tricky terrain, you need one with large wheels. They can handle cobbles, grass, and dirt tracks while providing the smoothest ride for all passengers. These are also great for jogging, as they come with built-in suspension and are easy enough to climb up and down kerbs. The downside is that they're quite heavy to push.

The best 3 wheel buggy for rough terrain is the Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 (pictured above). The 3-wheel buggy is extremely mobile due to its 16 rear wheels as well as a lockable front wheel. It has air tyres which require pumping occasionally and can hold children until the age of 3. It's also easy to get up and down kerbs and can fit in small car boots. It can also be used as a pram, with a carrycot or infant car seat for infants and toddlers.

Sling seats made of fabric fit snugly within the frame of the buggie, as opposed to on top of it like modular seats. This design delivers a lower centre of gravity and a perfect height, instantly making it easier to push and lighter to kerb pop (you cannot overestimate the amount of times you'll have to do this as a new parent!)

Seating

The seating capacity of 3 wheelers is quite impressive and there are a variety of different choices to choose from. For babies you have the option to use the included carrycot and (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cozy and comfortable lying flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy) In addition, older babies and toddlers can sit in the parent-facing or world-facing seat that is large and cushioned and has adjustable ventilation. The seats do not recline fully, but they can be lowered down to the lowest setting. This should allow your child to have plenty of room and headroom.

A fabric sling seat is also available, which offers the advantage of being positioned snugly inside the frame instead of sitting on top as the modular seat. This gives a lower centre of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it much easier and lighter to push especially over bumpy terrain or curbs. MFM reviewer Kath was impressed with the way this type of seat dealt with these obstacles.

This kind of buggy comes with a large basket and other useful features such as an extended hood with 50+ UV protection, a simple to use brake pedal and some unique visibility lights which can be put on the front of the passengers to ensure safety when riding on rough terrain.

Storage

The 3-wheeled frame makes the buggy more stable and stable to push with one hand, and it's also great for handling difficult terrain. The shopping basket is smaller than a four-wheeler.

MFM's reviewers have found that the 3 wheeler pushchair off road-wheeler frame doesn't fit through all the doors in their homes, or small car boots - make sure you know the dimensions of the buggy when it's folded prior to purchasing in case you're concerned about space.

Find a 3-wheeler that has 2 (or 3!) seats. seats once your family grows. These are the best of both worlds and future proof your money. The iCandy strawberry sport is one of the most popular and can be used as a single seat from day dot, and then transforms to a twin buggies when your baby starts walking.

Tyres

These tyres absorb bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's ride more enjoyable. They are commonly included on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted’s Sport, which MFM reviewer Kath said provided "an exceptional ride for her toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres on it made it easier to handle kerbs and cobbles.

These tyres can sometimes prove difficult to maintain and must be topped up frequently. They are also more vulnerable to punctures than foam tyres. So you'll need to make sure that you have repair kits, spare inner tube and pump in case you go traveling with your buggy.

PU tyres are typically used on pushchairs since they are a cheaper option than tyres filled with air, but they are equally durable. You can identify PU tire treads by their matte appearance and soft feel. They also slide on flat and tidied surfaces.

It's usually possible to discern the difference between PU and air-filled tire by running your fingers over each one, if it feels hard, then it's a rubber tyre, and if it slides then it's a PU. You can also check that your buggy has PU tyres simply by sliding the tyres on a clean, flat surface They'll roll easily and should fit snugly in their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are able to withstand the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. The downside of this is that the foam could shrink and make your buggy feel less stable, since it loses its springy nature. The tyres can also be noisy due to the fact that they create a lot noise when you turn and drive around the town.
