It's not as good in scouring pet hair and other messes as our top picks, but it's great for shoppers on a budget. It also offers the most features in the app, including virtual no-go zones and zone cleaning.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO is a sturdy, well-built robot that does an excellent job vacuuming bare floors. It has a huge external dirt compartment that it automatically empties into the docking station once full and resumes cleaning once it's fully charged. It's effective in removing small and medium debris from bare floors but it isn't as effective in removing pet hair and has high cost of maintenance.

The robot, just like the i3 EVO uses iRobot’s iAdapat navigation software to help you learn and remember your home. It also comes with a feature that automatically adjusts its head height and suction power according to the type of floor it's working on.

It was a success during our tests on hard floors as well as low-pile, removing the majority of the smaller, less difficult debris we put on each surface, as well as the larger crumbs of cereal that we deposited on the floor. It's not as good in handling pet hair than some of the top models we've tested, however, and it might become stuck on toys or cords if you don't pick them up before you send the robot out to clean.

In our tests, it was clean for approximately 90 minutes before the battery went out and returned to base. That's better than the i7+ and s9+ which ran for just 60 minutes in our tests. The i3+ EVO also has a great track record of recollecting where it left off in the same run this isn't the case with other robots we've tested.

2. Eureka Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro is a powerful mopping machine with a suction of 5,500pa. It can be set up in a matter of minutes. The integrated 770ml tank of water and dustbin decrease the frequency of emptying, and its capacity is large, allowing longer mopping sessions. Its 240-minute runtime also makes it a great option for homes with large spaces. Its remarkable smart navigation technology, courtesy of PreciSense LiDAR mapping, also ensures comprehensive room coverage, while allowing the robot to move around obstacles.

Unlike some other robot vacuums, the Q5 Pro does not require Wi-Fi to operate. The battery isn't very long lasting, so you'll need to charge it often if you intend to use the robot over long periods of time. It is fairly easy to maintain by using a dirt bag that is easily replaced and a simple maintenance schedule. It is also cheaper than its more expensive competitors.

The Q5 Pro is a bit selective when it comes to bulkier pet hair and debris, however, it does a great job overall. In our tests, it eliminated more debris from floors and carpets that are low-pile than the Dirt Devil Endura Max, however, it had a difficult time getting into tight corners and recessed areas of carpet with high pile. It's also a lot more maneuverable and the filtering system does a fantastic job of trapping allergens. The straight suction floorhead of the vacuum is low for medium or bulky debris. There are also minor drawbacks such as its lack of features that are more advanced and the limited functionality of the remote control. Despite these limitations it is still a great choice. Eureka Q5 Pro is a good choice to those seeking an affordable, basic robot vacuum with mopping capability.

3. SwitchBot K10 Plus

The SwitchBot K10 plus is a great choice if you want a smart vacuum that also mop. The robot is small size that lets it get into small spaces such as corners and under furniture that larger robots are unable to reach. It also comes with a LiDAR sensor that can detect obstacles and avoid collisions.

During our tests the K10 Plus vacuumed up pet hair dust, crumbs and other particles quickly and efficiently from our carpet. It also did an excellent job of getting into tight places like under our bed and around the chair's legs. It can be used to mop with a separate cloth, or use a wet wipe. There is a small package of wet wipes included with the K10 Plus to get you started.

The application for the K10 Plus is intuitive and easy to use. It offers a variety of customization options, including setting a time when the machine will not be disturbed, altering the layout of its map or setting a timer of when it is due to clean. The app tracks the life span of various accessories like the side brush, sensor and bin filter. This is helpful for knowing when it's time to replace them.

The battery life of the K10 Plus is also pretty excellent. After a full charge we got three hours of cleaning. It also charges very quickly. It is able to discharge dirt into a large bin located in the base station when it's done. This can be a bit noisy when it happens, but at least it's not as loud as the other self emptying robot vacuums we've tried.

4. iRobot S9+

iRobot Roomba S9+ is in the manufacturer's high-end S Series lineup above models like the iRobot Roomba j7 and iRobot Roomba i3. It's extremely adept in maneuvering around furniture and is able to work well on different surfaces. The main brushroll is equipped with counter rotating rubber scrapers that effectively clean most debris including pet hair from carpets and floors. The suction power in real-world use is powerful for a robotic vacuum, but it's not quite as powerful as the power of top brands like the Roborock S8.

The Roomba S9+'s design is clearly high-end and features a D-shaped body that is more modern than its circular competitors. This unique shape also helps it get into corners and along edges more easily. It can still leave dust behind in these areas if you don't spin the corner brush in a fast enough manner. However its powerful motor makes up for it.

In the tests conducted by iRobot, the S9+ was able to remove pet hair and kitty litter with ease. It also performed exceptionally well on hard floors, where it made use of its powerful motor to push through the majority of debris, and clean all edges and corners with ease. Its vSLAM-based advanced technology and Imprint Smart Mapping technology also made it one of the top navigators we've ever tested, with an unshakeable grasp of the floorspace it can even locate its way under beds or sofas with draped valances over them.

Setup and operation are easy using the iRobot application. You can choose which functions you'd like to activate when you first set up the robot vacuum bagless, or wait until you've got an understanding of it. The internal bin has to be manually emptied occasionally when it is full however, the process takes less than 15 seconds and it's fairly quiet.

5. Roborock S8

The most recent version of the Roborock S Series is a powerful robot vacuum and mop combination with a robust feature-set. It utilizes an LIDAR and camera system to navigate and avoid obstacles similar to its predecessors. Its mapping system creates an interactive 3D map of your home that you can view through the app. It lets you define no-go zones, or certain rooms for spot cleaning. The app lets you control the robot's schedule, and also select different cleaning and mopping modes for each room.

The S8 is equipped with upgraded HyperForce suction, which is able to pick up fine particles and hair easily. The app allows you to adjust the suction power. The device is able to automatically switch between energy efficient 'Quiet' 'Balanced', and 'Turbo" modes depending on the surface that it is cleaning. It also has a 'Carpet Suction Boost' mode that increases suction when the robot is positioned on rugs.

The S8 can be controlled using a single button that also functions as a cleaning button for the entire robot or an 'Spot' Clean button that directs it to a specific location. It is also possible to press the 'Dock/Home' option to send the robot back to its home base. The app has a surprisingly extensive feature set and is easy to use. You can even choose when you want to charge your phone off-peak in order to save money on peak time energy.

The only issue with the S8 is that the battery doesn't last as long as I'd like. It only lasted 130 minutes when I was using it on normal settings, with both vacuuming & mopping enabled. This is still a long duration and was enough to wash my apartment.
