Buying a Pram Newborn

Parents and caregivers can depend on pushchairs and prams to be multi-functional and versatile. They are the co-pilots for your child's new journey.

A pram for newborns is designed for newborns and babies. It has the most solid, sturdy carrycot that has soft and secure walls.

A pram typically comes with a bassinet. However, it can be transformed into a stroller seat when baby is ready.

Safety

Newborns need to be secured as much as possible. Buying a folding stroller or pram with safety features will ensure that your baby is safe and secure while traveling. A stroller or pram must include a break that is working and a 5-point harness (2 shoulder straps and two waist straps and an e-crotch belt) and a wrist tether for the person pushing it. Make sure that the pram you choose meets these standards before purchasing.

Find a pram that allows your baby to travel in the position recommended for lying flat. This position supports your baby and avoids the risk of a dangerous curvature in their spine that could cause problems with their spine. By keeping the airways open, it lowers the risk for SUID (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or Asphyxiation). Most prams are able to be used right from the moment of birth. They come with seats that recline into a lay-flat position for younger infants and converts into a pushchair for older children.

The suspension of the pram will determine how smoothly it runs. A pram that has many suspensions is likely to be more costly but it may be worth it to purchase this feature if you intend on using your pram everyday for a few years or longer.

You should always take the time to read the instruction manual thoroughly and look over the warning labels on your stroller or pram. When not in use, park your pram away from dangers like bicycles, traffic or other people. It is important to take any bags or other items from the handles as they could cause your baby to get caught or suffocate.

A stroller or pram should never be left unattended with a child in it even if they are asleep. They may squirm into the pram and become stuck, or be pushed away and cause injuries. Hanging bags or other items from the handles isn't an ideal idea because they could fall and hit your child in the head.

Comfort

It is crucial that babies have the option of lying flat, as it aids in lung and back development. Look for a pram with two shoulder straps (ideally cushioned) and a functional five-point safety harness that fits your bub's body safely. Make sure there aren't any gaps, or loose areas, where fingers could be trapped. Also make sure the buckles are simple for older children to use. It's also worth considering whether you'd prefer a parent facing pram or not - it's great to watch your little one and helps children feel secure with the familiar sight of their parents.

Convenience

It is important to consider the needs of your baby's transportation when buying a newborn pram. Some prams include an infant bassinet, carrycot or seat that reclines to a flat position. This is essential for your baby's development of the spine and breathing. You should also check the other accessories that are included in the pram, like the footmuff and the changing bag. These are essential to keep your baby warm in the event of cold.

You should be able to put shopping bags and changing bags in the basket underneath. You should be able to store bags for shopping and changing beneath the pram (but remember that too much weight could cause it to topple over).
