Buying a Tandem Double Buggy

If you have twins or children close in age, a tandem double buggy is a great option. They are a bit smaller than side by side buggies, and are perfect for narrow spaces like doors, public transport and terrain that is rocky.

Some can be converted to travel systems that use two carrycots or child car seats. They are typically heavier, longer and less stable than a single pushchair.

Convertible

There are many options for adding a second seating or converting a single stroller to a double. The UPPAbaby Vista V2 is a large, gorgeous stroller that easily converts from a single stroller to a double by adding the rumble seat (available separately). However, it's expensive and less maneuverable than other dual strollers because the 2nd seat is placed behind the front seat. Nuna Demi Grow offers a similar option but lacks storage under the seat when used as a double stroller.

Other options include twin buggies with all-terrain wheels, and joggers with fixed wheels that can hold two kids. They are more expensive but they are made for long-distance trips over rough terrain and come with more expensive resales.

Reclining seat recline independently

If you're looking for a double stroller which can accommodate children of various ages, you will need one with independent seat recliner for both seats. This will allow your child's older to sit back and relax while the baby is in the bassinet, and reverse.

You'll also need to think about the size of the pushchair, as this will affect how easy it is to get through doors and on public transport. If your doorways are very narrow, you might be considering a side-by-side pushchair, such as the Mountain Buggy Duet. It has a footprint that is similar to a single stroller but it can accommodate two seats and car seat adaptors.

Tandem buggies are usually smaller than side-byside models, and aren't as easy to manoeuvre up and down kerbs, however, they can accommodate a bigger range of car seat/car seat combinations, so can be a good option for twins or siblings of various ages. They can also be more expensive than single-to-double buggies but are a worthwhile investment if you intend to keep it for many years and will retain a decent amount of resale value if you decide to sell it off when your children have grown out of it.

Some brands feature a unique seat design which allows the back seat to completely recline into an almost flat position, which is ideal for infants. Larger than twin buggies

There's no need to have twins in order to benefit from a wider double buggy. They're great for siblings of different age groups and let you get around without worrying about your children touching. They're typically a bit larger too with one seat placed behind the other, and typically with a fully-flat recline option for babies (or an upright position for toddlers).
